The "Morning Edition" bluegrass band was formed in
early 2008 after some of us had been getting together for a while doing
"house jams". (A house jam occurs when a few musicians, who are
nearly dying from the anticipation of waiting for the next time they can
get together with some other musicians, get together to play and sing
music for hours and hours on end . . . until their families threaten to
throw them out of the house). What we discovered during these
house jams is that we all enjoyed traditional bluegrass music, slightly
progressive bluegrass music, and country and bluegrass harmonies.
James Good plays dobro and sings lead and harmony
vocals. James' musical influences include Mike Auldridge, Jimmy
Heffernan, and Jerry Douglas.
Bob Shuey plays rhythm and lead guitar, and sings lead
and harmony vocals.
Doug Moats plays upright bass and does some singing.
Doug played bass for Jack Sanbower as a member of the No Leeway Band for
10 years. Today Doug enjoys working in his garden, making
groundhog stew, working at the Post Office and being at home with his
wife, Linda in addition to playing music with Morning Edition.
Jimmy Fitch plays banjo. Jimmy has been strongly
influenced by Sammy Scheeler (The Lonesome River Band).
